Islamic Summit of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation

Peace talks from all sides of the Islamic Summit for the OIC
#KairosAcadémico
In the current reunion of the Islamic Summit for the OIC, which main focus is the situation in Yemen, all assistants agreed on a trilateral negotiation between the three representatives of Yemen in order to establish a common ground to start a cease fire. This is the first step on which the whole summit agreed because it will provide a peaceful middle ground that will allow other measures to be taken, in order to achieve stability in this territory.
Nevertheless, there are certain points that have been touched rather obliquely that deserve more priority. The violation of not only international law but of human rights and its investigation an appropriate penalization should be number one in the agenda of this summit. Even though stablishing a peaceful middle ground where no weapons are being fired is a great step forward, crimes have already been committed and those responsible should not stay unpunished.
In addition to this, Alqaeda is still a big problem not only for Yemen but for those who live in this region. Attacking this terrorist cells should also be a priority for those in this reunion because it’s an unsettling factor for the security not only of the region but worldwide.
Amnesty international has stated it position on this summit and will closely follow the course of the negotiation always looking out for the needs and pleas of those in need.
A slow start

The OIC central subject of the first part of the session was the internal conflict of Yemen. The three representatives of Yemen: Saleh Ali, Abd Rabbuh Mansur and Aidarus Ali Zoubairdi, negotiated and stablished the countries priorities. But the negotiation sadly did not convince the whole committee. International community worries for the humanitarian crisis and fear that negotiations will take too much time. Particularly, for some members it is outrageous to start negotiations without a third-party actor that intermediates the situation. Once more the political tensions are evident in the hall with a fragmented country in the middle. The new Cuba of middle east Cold War is in a deadlock and the negotiations are not taking the committee anywhere. Yemen suffers the delayed negotiations. Hopefully the summit will take another course in the second part of the conference and lead to real solutions.
Clock is ticking, and nothing seems to improve. Is Islamic Summit incapable of solving the crisis? Will the summit be ready to gather with the other regional conferences with concrete ideas? Skepticism is in the air.

The wind was on favor of the citizens of Yemen. The committee did a 180° turn. Two position papers were established. The first one regarding to education and the humanitarian crisis was headed by the Republic of Yemen. The second paper consisted in the intervention of the Security Council and how other countries could be useful.
Secondly, the committee reunited in the grand Summit for State Fragility. The first part of the session acted as a summary for every committee. The Islamic Summit voted for the Republic of Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Colombia posed the preoccupation for Yemen and how valuable the ideas of the OIC were for the grand Summit.
The members of the summit are eager to learn from the International community and apply useful policies to their working papers tomorrow. Yemen sees a glimpse of faith and hope.
